The films they had in development were Toy Story 3, Monsters Inc. So when it was announced that Pixar and Disney were separating in 2004, Disney launched Circle 7 Animation to produce direct to video sequels to Pixar's movies without their involvement.
For context, Disney Circle 7 Animation was a studio Disney briefly operated from 2004 to May 26, 2006.Īs part of Pixar's original distribution deal with Disney in the 90's, Disney owned the rights to Pixar's characters, including sequel rights.
